The name

What does Nakie mean?

Getting naked in nature? Sort of, but not quite.

Nakie is all about inspiring you to get outdoors and strip back to nature. You know, leaving behind the traffic, emails and all the noise to reconnect with what truly matters.

It’s not about losing your clothes, but about shedding all the stress and distractions. Just getting back to basics, enjoying the outdoors, and feeling free. That’s what the name Nakie is all about!

So read this page like a packing list. It starts with what stays at home, and every section after it takes one more layer off.

What does Nakie mean? Hammocks hung between trees

Leave behind

Traffic. Emails. Noise.

Then pack for a Saturday that belongs only to you.

  1. Roll out of bed right away. Do not open Instagram.
  2. Don’t touch your phone.
  3. Pack whatever snacks you can find, a bottle of water, and your Nakie hammock too.
  4. Drive out to the bush.
  5. String your Nakie hammock between some trees and settle in.
  6. Do not touch your phone for the rest of the evening. Watch a documentary or read a book or have a long bath.

You are in complete and utter control.

The pack

Six things to carry out the door

Every family of gear from the Nakie home page, stripped down to one line and one photo.

How to hang

Think banana, not slackline.

Setting up your hammock is so simple that after doing it two or three time's you'll realize you've had more trouble learning to tie your shoelaces than setting this up. The carabiner clips combined with the reinforced straps make setup as easy as 1-2-3!

You wake up on a sunny Saturday morning and decide it's the perfect day to try out your new hammock! You fill your water bottle, pack some snacks, lace up your boots and head outdoors. You hike through the woods for some time until you finally land on a spot you'd like to set up your new hammock...now what?

  1. Quality products that last: a hammock strapped to a tree
    1

    Loop the strap

Loop each strap around a tree and through itself at the same height as your head.

Attaching your hammock to a tree, pole, rock or even a car bullbar (if your handbrake is good enough!) is super simple with our no fuss straps.

  2. Quality products that last: a hammock clipped to its straps
    2

    Clip it in

Clip each end of the hammock onto one of the many loops available on each strap.

Everyone likes it a little different, so have a play around to find what suits you best. It’s nice and easy to adjust using the handy little loops all along the straps and the easy clip carabina on either end.

  3. Nakie hammocks and gear collection
    3

    Lie down and adjust

Lay in the hammock to test comfort, then adjust the clips as desired.

Aim to have the straps secured at about head to shoulder height and the middle of the hammock hanging to about hip height. If the hammock is strung too tight it will limit the space inside and make it harder to get in and out.

A hammock that takes less than 60 seconds to set up. It's as easy breezy as:

  • Losing one sock in the laundry.
  • Getting a laugh out of a kookaburra.
  • Burning the snags on the barbie.
  • Keeping a Monstera plant alive.
  • Tripping over absolutely nothing.
  • Hitting snooze on your alarm, again.

Being in a hammock rocks. Here is what Nakie says about it.

Nakie's own words from nakie.co, not medical advice.

  • SleepBabies are on to something: being rocked induces sleep. The gentle rocking motion makes people fall asleep faster, and they sleep deeper.
  • Muscle achesSleeping in a hammock will relieve pressure on areas of your body compared to a bed. The surface is more flexible, so there’s equal pressure on all parts of your body. It also molds to your natural curves.
  • CirculationHammocks elevate your upper body and allow for better circulation to the head. The simple yet natural design gives the body the support and comfort it needs, putting minimal stress on your limbs and spine.
  • Sleeping postureHammocks can alleviate back pain when in the proper position. A hammock can provide a basic stretch of the body, loosening tight muscles and aligning the spine.
  • Bonus health hackHammocks get you outdoors spending more time in nature instead of a TV or computer.
  • Hang loose and chillThe middle of the hammock hangs at about hip level, while the ends hang at about head level. Think banana.

You should spend 10 minutes in a hammock every single day. Unless you're too busy, then you should spend an hour.

Once you’re up

Four ways to lie in it

The nap

If your eyelids are heavy and you’re ready for an afternoon snooze sesh, the best way to lay is straight along the length of your hammock. Sink your head back, embrace the cocoon life and let the gentle swaying lull you to sleep.

The book and the stars

If you’re wanting to keep your head supported or up and out of the hammock for reading, stargazing or watching the sun go down, laying diagonal is the way to go. Place your head off centre with your feet on the opposite side.

The campfire chat

For campfire chats and socialising, sitting sideways on the hammock is the way to go. Just like a chair but way more fun!

Two hammocks, one triangle

Did your friend bring a hammock too? Then find 3 trees in a triangle. Attach both hammocks to the same tree and the other end to different trees. Once your hammock is set up, the pouch it comes in can hold your phone, sunglasses, snacks, or water bottle.

Pick your colour

One cup, a whole shelf of moods

Fits cans, bottles and hot drinks. The same prints run across the range, so a cup can match a blanket: Sound of Summer, Holiday Dreams, Floating Lotus, Happy Days, Turkish Delight, Autumn Leaves, Kasey Rainbow, Retro Shores and Ringers Western.

Take a seat

What’s your camping style?

Perhaps you appreciate the convenience of travelling light and setting up a hammock wherever you end up spending the night. It doesn’t matter how you camp; there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. When you want to sit, the Camping Chair brings easy carry, full back support and a world-first ergonomic rocking design.

Build Your Picnic Set

Traditionally, beach goers often have the perfect combo of a blanket and a towel. But bringing them separately takes up so much space in the luggage. Build A Bundle: Buy Any 2 Items and Save 20%.

Just as eggs go well with bacon, shoes with socks, and even coffee with cream, any beach trip wouldn’t be complete without a blanket and a towel. The blanket is used for sunbathing or just lounging on the sand. And the towel is used for drying themselves up after a good swim.

If it's for you, a friend or loved one, we have the perfect eco friendly gifts designed to last a lifetime.

4 Trees Planted for every Product sold

Rooting for a better planet

4 Trees Planted for every Product sold.

One of the most common FAQs we get is: “Do you really plant four trees for every product sold?” You bloody betcha we do!

We have already planted 501,537 trees. We started with a reserve in Madagascar and now have our own reserve in Kenya.

We partner with an independent organisation to verify that all of our trees are authentically planted.

100,000 acres of forest is cleared around the world every day. Every time you buy a Nakie product, we plant four trees. It’s all part of our mission to create a greener, more sustainable future.

Planting out of poverty

Where the trees go, and who plants them

Reforestation project in Madagascar

Where are we planting our trees?

We are planting our trees in our own reserve in north west Madagascar. The site is called Ankilahila mangrove and is 183 hectares. Madagascar is the fourth-largest island on the planet and is home to over 200,000 species of plants and animals that do not exist anywhere else in the world.

Four trees planted for every product sold

What kind of trees?

At the moment we are planting a range of different trees including fruit trees and a large number of mangrove trees. Mangrove trees absorb 4 times more carbon dioxide than any other tree species, and their roots are key in preventing erosion.

Recycled Material

How tree planting transforms lives

All of our trees are planted by local villagers who are struggling to find work and provide for their families. We’ve heard stories from locals who can now send their kids to school or afford more meals thanks to these jobs. Our customers aren't just buying gear, they're joining us in making a real difference.

Why Madagascar needs them

Madagascar is one of the poorest counties in the world and is heavily dependent on foreign humanitarian aid in order to meet the food, health and educational needs of their people. It is believed at least 50 % of Madagascan people are living below the poverty line and 70% are living off less than $1 a day.

A minimum 5 year commitment

We want to do our part to not only help the planet but also the people. That is why we have committed to a minimum 5 year reforestation project in north west Madagascar. All of our trees are planted by local villagers who are struggling to find work and provide for there families.

Why we’re planting beyond Australia

People often ask us why we don’t plant trees in Australia. The reason is simple: Australia’s unemployment rate is relatively low. By planting trees in areas with higher unemployment, we can help lift people out of poverty while also helping the environment.

The people

The trio behind Nakie

We're Dean, Jaryd and Tegan, the trio behind Nakie. Our journey began with a shared love for scuba diving and a growing concern about plastic pollution in our beautiful oceans.

Travelling across the world and witnessing this devastating waste firsthand, we knew we had to take action. As nature lovers who enjoy camping and spending time outdoors, we decided to combine our passion for the outdoors with our mission to reduce plastic pollution in the oceans.

After 9 months of testing and product development, we created a world-first: a 100% recycled hammock made from 37 recycled plastic bottles. So Nakie was born.

Ah, the garage, where it all began

We started Nakie at the end of 2019 in the garage, which soon took over the bedrooms and the entire house! Fast forward a few years and now we’re in our dream location, our Eco HQ, fully self-sufficient with solar panels, water tanks and a veggie patch for the team.

Looking back at the journey since that first order, it’s been incredible! We’ve faced many challenges, long weekends, and late nights. But all so worth it. We’re so grateful for everyone who has supported us along the way. We’re excited to continue building this vision together!

Watch our TED Talk

The email came through, and we couldn’t believe our eyes: “We would love for Nakie to do a TED Talk.” Having the chance to share our mission and purpose was an absolute privilege.
